Many lasers, especially CO2 lasers, use pulse width modulation (PWM) to control the power level of the laser. This is not true, pulsed operation, but rather a reduction of the duty cycle to lower the average power. The beam operates as if it were CW, and many operators do not even realize that the laser is pulsing. However, when attempting to measure a PWM laser with a scanning slit profiler, it must be treated as a pulsed laser source. To use the pulsed mode of the NanoScan the laser's pulse frequency must be at least several kHz, and the combination of the frequency and beam size must provide a sufficient number of pulses across the beam to generate a meaningful profile. Eight to ten pulses are a reasonable minimum. PWM lasers usually operate around 10kHz. The relationship of the beam size and frequency is a fairly simple mathematical model. The NanoScan drum speed is software controlled from 1.25Hz to 20Hz. There are two available drum sizes for the NanoScan; the standard head has a drum diameter of 42mm and the large aperture and high power heads use a larger drum with 84mm diameter. On the 42mmdrum at the 1.25Hz rotation rate the slits travel at around 116.6mm per second or 116.6μm per millisecond. At a 10kHz laser repetition rate, a 175μm beam would have 15 pulses during the time that the slit was traversing it. This would provide enough data to generate a meaningful profile. A smaller beam would require a faster pulse rate, a larger one could perhaps run at a lower repetition rate. For example, a 1.0mm beam could be measured with a pulse rate as low as 2kHz and still provide a profile.

An essential difference between continuous-wave and pulsed lasers
is that the intensity, phase etc. of a continuous-wave laser are
continuously evolving variables, whereas for pulsed lasers we are
dealing with parameters of discrete pulses.
Each pulse can be characterized by a set of parameters such as the pulse energy, peak power, duration, mean optical frequency and arrival time, and their fluctuations need to be described statistically.
For single pulses, possibly emitted on demand, the statistical description is relatively simple. For each pulse parameter, there is a distribution function, which may often be approximated with a Gaussian. It is then often sufficient to specify an r.m.s. value of a quantity like the pulse energy under certain conditions (e.g. pulse emission after some minimum pumping time). It may, however, also be relevant to consider correlations between different parameters, as discussed further below.

ഏതാനും വര്ഷങ്ങള്ക്ക് മുന്പ് ബംഗാളിലെ ചില പരസ്യ സംവിധായകര് ഇതേ ക്യാമറ ചിത്രീകരണത്തിന് ഉപയോഗിച്ചതായും വാര്ത്തകള് വന്നിരുന്നു. സത്യജിത്ത് റേയുടെ കുടുംബം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ക്യാമറ ദേവിന് സമ്മാനിക്കുകയായിരുന്നുവെന്നാണ് ദേവുമായി അടുത്ത വൃത്തങ്ങള് അവകാശപ്പെടുന്നത്. എന്നാല് സത്യജിത്ത് റേയുടെ മകനും ചലച്ചിത്ര സംവിധായകനുമായ സന്ദീപ് റേ ഇതുസംബന്ധിച്ചുള്ള മാധ്യമങ്ങളുടെ ചോദ്യങ്ങള്ക്ക് മറുപടി നല്കുന്നില്ല.

തൃശൂര്: ഇന്നലെ അന്തരിച്ച പ്രശസ്ത ചലച്ചിത്ര താരം കലാഭവന് മണിയുടെ സംസ്കാരം ഇന്നു വൈകിട്ട് അഞ്ചുമണിക്ക് വീട്ടുവളപ്പില് നടക്കും. തൃശൂര് മെഡിക്കല് കോളെജില് നടക്കുന്ന പോസ്റ്റ്മോര്ട്ടം നടപടികള്ക്കുശേഷം മണിയുടെ മൃതദേഹം തൃശൂര് സംഗീത നാടക അക്കാദമിയില് രാവിലെ 11.30മുതല് 12 മണി വരെയും, തുടര്ന്ന് ചാലക്കുടി നഗരസഭയില് മൂന്നുമണി വരെയും പൊതുദര്ശനത്തിന് വെക്കും. തുടര്ന്ന് വീട്ടുവളപ്പില് കലാഭവന് മണിയുടെ അച്ഛനെ അടക്കിയിരിക്കുന്ന സ്ഥലത്തിനടുത്ത് തന്നെയാണ് മണിയെയും സംസ്ക്കരിക്കുന്നത്.
രണ്ടുദിവസം മുന്പാണ് കരള്രോഗബാധിതനായ കലാഭവന്മണിയെ അമൃത ആശുപത്രിയില് പ്രവേശിപ്പിച്ചത്. തുടര്ന്ന് ഞായറാഴ്ച ഉച്ചയോടെ അതീവ ഗുരുതരാവസ്ഥയിലായ കലാഭവന് മണി രാത്രി 7.15ഓടെയാണ് മരണമടഞ്ഞത്. കലാഭവന് മണിയുടെ ശരീരത്തില് വിഷാംശം കണ്ടെത്തിയതായി ആശുപത്രി അധികൃതര് ചേരാനെല്ലൂര് പൊലീസില് അറിയിച്ചിരുന്നു. തുടര്ന്ന് ചേരാനെല്ലൂര് പൊലീസും, ചാലക്കുടി പൊലീസും ആശുപത്രിയിലെത്തുകയും ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.
മദ്യത്തിനൊപ്പം മെഥനോള് കലര്ന്നതാണ് മരണത്തിനു കാരണമായതെന്നാണ് ഡോക്റ്റര്മാരുടെ സംശയം. തുടര്ന്ന് മണിയുടെ സഹോദരന്റെ ആവശ്യപ്രകാരം ചാലക്കുടി പൊലീസ് അസ്വാഭാവിക മരണത്തിന് കേസ് രജിസ്റ്റര് ചെയ്യുകയും ചെയ്തു. ശരീരത്തില് വിഷാംശം കലര്ന്നതിനെ തുടര്ന്നാണ് അസ്വാഭാവിക മരണത്തിന് കേസെടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നത്. പോസ്റ്റ്മോര്ട്ടം റിപ്പോര്ട്ടും, ഫോറന്സിക് പരിശോധന ഫലവും ലഭിച്ചശേഷം മാത്രമെ അസ്വാഭാവിക മരണത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് കൂടുതല് എന്തെങ്കിലും പറയാനാകു എന്ന് പൊലീസ് വ്യക്തമാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഡിവൈഎസ്പി കെ.എസ് സുദര്ശനനാണ് അന്വേഷണത്തിന്റെ ചുമതല. അതേസമയം എക്സൈസ് അധികൃതരും സമാന്തര അന്വേഷണം നടത്തുന്നുണ്ട്.

മണിനാദം പോലെ മുഴങ്ങുന്ന ചിരിയാണ് കലാഭവന് മണിയെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള ഓര്മ്മയില് ആദ്യം തെളിയുന്നത്. പേരില്ത്തന്നെയുള്ള കലാഭവന്റെ മിമിക്രി വേദികളിലൂടെയാണ് മണി എന്ന കലാകാരന് ചുവടുവയ്ക്കുന്നത്. അക്ഷരം എന്ന ചിത്രത്തിലൂടെ ഒരു ഓട്ടോ ഡ്രൈവറുടെ വേഷത്തില് എത്തിയെങ്കിലും സുന്ദര്ദാസ്-ലോഹിതദാസ് കൂട്ടുകെട്ടിലെത്തിയ സല്ലാപത്തിലൂടെയാണ് മണി എന്ന അഭിനേതാവിനെ പ്രേക്ഷകര് ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുന്നത്. ചിത്രത്തില് ഒരു കള്ള്ചെത്തുകാരനായിരുന്നു മണിയുടെ കഥാപാത്രം. ചിത്രത്തിലെ മഞ്ജു വാര്യരുടെ നായികാ കഥാപാത്രത്തെ ശല്യം ചെയ്യുന്ന രംഗങ്ങള് ശ്രദ്ധേയമായി. മലയാള സിനിമയില് ഒരു പുതിയ ഹാസ്യതാരം ജനിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു അവിടെ. പിന്നീടങ്ങോട്ട് മണിയില്ലാത്ത ചിത്രങ്ങള് അപൂര്വ്വമായി. ചെറിയ ബജറ്റില് ഹാസ്യത്തിന്റെ മേമ്പൊടിയോടെ ഒരുക്കുന്ന സിനിമകളുടെ കാലവും കൂടിയായിരുന്നു അത്. രണ്ടാം നിര നായകന്മാരുടെ ചിത്രങ്ങളില് അവരുടെയെല്ലാം സുഹൃത്തായി മണിയുമെത്തി.
വിനയന് ചിത്രങ്ങളിലെ ശ്രദ്ധേയ വേഷങ്ങളിലൂടെയാണ് നായകനായി മണി പിന്നീട് സാന്നിധ്യം അടയാളപ്പെടുത്തുന്നത്. കരുമാടിക്കുട്ടനും വാസന്തിയും ലക്ഷ്മിയും പിന്നെ ഞാനുമെല്ലാം അക്കാലത്ത് തീയേറ്ററുകള് നിറയ്ക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. ബെന് ജോണ്സണ് പോലുള്ള ചിത്രങ്ങള് പുറത്തിറങ്ങുന്ന കാലത്ത് മണിക്ക് സ്വന്തമായി ഒരു ആരാധകവൃന്ദമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. മണിയുടെ ചിത്രങ്ങള് ആദ്യദിനം തീയേറ്ററില് പോയി കാണുന്ന പ്രേക്ഷകര്.
കരിയറിന്റെ മധ്യത്തില് അന്യഭാഷ്യയിലും ഭാഗ്യം പരീക്ഷിച്ച മണിക്ക് അവിടെയും വലിയ സ്വീകാര്യതയാണ് ലഭിച്ചത്. വിശേഷിച്ച് തമിഴ്നാട്ടില്. മണിയുടെ വില്ലന് വേഷങ്ങളായിരുന്നു തമിഴില് ഹിറ്റ്. വന് മുതല്മുടക്കിലെത്തുന്ന പല തമിഴ് ചിത്രങ്ങളിലും കൊച്ചിന് ഹനീഫയ്ക്ക് ശേഷം സ്ഥിരമായെത്തുന്ന ഒരു മലയാളി സാന്നിധ്യം ഒരു പക്ഷേ മണിയായിരുന്നു. ശങ്കറിന്റെ രജനി ചിത്രം എന്തിരനില്പ്പോലും മണിക്ക് വേഷമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
പക്ഷേ ഇടക്കാലത്ത് അദ്ദേഹത്തെ സിനിമകളില് അധികം കാണാതായി. ചില അവാര്ഡ് വേദികളിലും അപൂര്വ്വം ചില സിനിമകളിലും കണ്ടതൊഴിച്ചാല് മണി സജീവമായിരുന്നില്ല അടുത്ത കാലത്ത്. കഴിഞ്ഞ ഏതാനും ആഴ്ചകളായി മലയാള സിനിമാ മേഖലയില് തുടരുന്ന അകാല വിയോഗങ്ങളില് അവസാനത്തെ കണ്ണിയായി കലാഭവന് മണിയും വിടവാങ്ങുമ്പോള് പ്രേക്ഷകരുടെ ഉള്ളില് തെളിയുക ആ ചിരിയാവും. മണിനാദം പോലെയുള്ള നിഷ്കളങ്കമായ ആ ചിരി.

കൊച്ചി: കാറിന്റെ ഡിക്കിയില് മാങ്കോസ്റ്റിന് തൈകളും, കുടയില് നിറയെ മാങ്കോസ്റ്റിന് പഴങ്ങളുമായി മമ്മൂക്കാ... എന്നു വിളിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുവരുന്ന മണി ഇനിയുണ്ടാകില്ലെന്നത് ഞെട്ടലിനും അപ്പുറത്തുളള എന്തോ ആണെന്ന് നടന് മമ്മൂട്ടി. ടിവിയില് മണി മരിച്ചു എന്നെഴുതി കാണിക്കുമ്പോള് ഇവിടെ ബെംഗളൂരുവില് ഞാനൊരു ഷൂട്ടിംഗ് തിരക്കിലാണ്. ഇത്തവണ മരണം കൊണ്ടുപോയത് എന്റെ അരികില് നിന്നൊരാളെയാണ്.എന്തിനും കൈയെത്തും ദൂരത്തുണ്ടായിരുന്നൊരു സഹോദരനെ. എന്തുപറഞ്ഞാണ് ഞാന് എന്നെത്തന്നെ സമാധാനിപ്പിക്കുക!
തെറ്റ് ചെയ്താല് അരികില് വന്നു തലകുനിച്ച് കണ്ണുതുടക്കുന്നൊരു അനുജനായിരുന്നു മണി.എന്റെ വീട് അവന്റെ കൂടെ വീടാണെന്ന് കരുതിയിരുന്ന ഒരാള്. മണി എന്നെ കണ്ടത് ജേഷ്ഠനായാണ്.സിഗററ്റ് വലിക്കുമ്പോള് പോലും എന്നെ കണ്ടാല് അത് മറച്ചുപിടിക്കാന് നോക്കും.അത് അറിയാതെ ചെയ്തുപോകുന്നതാണ്, കലര്പ്പില്ലാതെയാണ് മണി എന്നെ സ്നേഹിച്ചത്.
മറുമലര്ച്ചി എന്ന സിനിമയുടെ ഷൂട്ടിംഗ് തിരുവണ്ണാമലയില് നടന്നുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കെ അഭിനയിക്കാമെന്നേറ്റ ഹാസ്യനടന് പെട്ടെന്നു വരില്ലെന്നറിയിച്ചു.അതോടെ ആളില്ലാതായി.ഞാന് പറഞ്ഞു, മലയാളത്തില് കലാഭവന് മണിയെന്നൊരു നല്ല നടനുണ്ട്. അദ്ദേഹത്തെ വിളിക്കാമെന്നാണ്. അന്നു ഞാന് പറഞ്ഞത് വന്നാല് തിരിച്ചയക്കില്ലെന്ന ഉറപ്പുതരണമെന്നാണ്. കാരണം അത്രയും നല്ലൊരു നടനെ തിരിച്ചയച്ചാല് അതൊരു വേദനയാകും. അവര് മണിയെ തിരിച്ചയക്കില്ലെന്ന് ഉറപ്പ് നല്കി.അവര് വിളിച്ചപ്പോള് തമിഴ് അറിയില്ലെന്ന് പറഞ്ഞ് മണി മുങ്ങി.
അവസാനം ഞാന് വിളിച്ച് ഇത് നല്ല അവസരമാണെന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു. കുറച്ചുദേഷ്യത്തില് പറഞ്ഞു എന്നാണോര്മ്മ. ഉടന് പറഞ്ഞു, നാളെ രാവിലെ ഞാനവിടെ എത്തുമെന്ന്, അതായിരുന്നു തമിഴിലെ തുടക്കം. പിന്നീട് മണി തമിഴില് വലിയ നടനായി.ചാലക്കുടിയിലോ തിരക്കില്ലാത്ത ലൊക്കേഷനിലോ ആണ് ഷൂട്ട് എങ്കില് കോഴിയും, ആടുമെല്ലാമായി മണിയും സംഘവും വരും.കൂടെയൊരു പാചകക്കാരനും കാണും.മണിയും നല്ല പാചകക്കാരനാണ്.എനിക്കിഷ്ടമുളളതെല്ലാം ഉണ്ടാക്കി മണി ഊട്ടിക്കും.ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ച് മതിവരുന്നത് മണിക്ക് കാണണമായിരുന്നു.
മണിയുടെ ഭക്ഷണത്തിലുണ്ടായിരുന്നത് സ്നേഹമാണ്.അളക്കാനാകാത്ത സ്നേഹം.മണി എന്തെങ്കിലും വേണ്ടാത്തത് കാണിച്ചുവെന്ന് കേട്ടാല് ഞാന് വിളിക്കുമായിരുന്നു. ഇനി ഉണ്ടാകില്ലെന്ന് പറഞ്ഞ് ഫോണിന്റെ മറുവശത്ത് മൂളിക്കൊണ്ട് മിണ്ടാതിരിക്കും. ആദ്യകാലത്ത് ഞങ്ങള് കാള് ലൂയിസ് എന്നാണ് മണിയെ വിളിച്ചിരുന്നത്. അത്രയ്ക്കും ബലിഷ്ഠമായ ശരീരമായിരുന്നു.മലയാള സിനിമയിലും ഗാനശാഖയിലും നാടന് പാട്ടിനെ തിരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുവന്നത് മണിയാണ്. നൂറുകണക്കിന് നാടന്പാട്ടുകള് മണി തേടിപ്പിടിച്ചു.അതറിയാവുന്നവരെക്കൊണ്ട് എഴുതിച്ചു.മണിയുടെതായ ഗായക സംഘമുണ്ടായി. സത്യത്തില് മണിയുടെ വലിയൊരു ബാന്ഡ് രൂപപ്പെടേണ്ടതായിരുന്നു.
ആയിരക്കണക്കിനു ആളുകള് ഗള്ഫില്പ്പോലും മണിയുടെ പാട്ടിന്റെ താളത്തിനൊത്ത് നൃത്തം ചവിട്ടുന്നത് ഞാന് കണ്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്.മലയാളം അറിയാത്തവരുടെ വലിയസംഘങ്ങള് പോലും അതിലുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.മണിയുടെ ശരീരഭാഷയും താളവും അവതരണവും ഭാഷയ്ക്ക് അപ്പുറത്തേക്ക് സംഗീതത്തെ കൊണ്ടുപോയി.
