Internet design principles

 Cerf and Kahn’s internetworking principles:
 minimalism, autonomy - no internal changes required to interconnect networks
 best effort service model
 stateless routers
 decentralized control
 Small number of layers
 compromise between performance and flexibility
 thin layers encourage flexibility, but increases overhead
 Define today’s Internet architecture
