Adult male Wistar rats from our own
breeding colony weighing 270-320 g at the
beginning of the experiments were used.
The animals were maintained in a temperature-
controlled room (22 ± 2ºC) on a 12/12-
h light cycle (lights on at 7:00 am) and had
free access to food and water. All efforts
were made to minimize animal suffering and
the recommendations of the Brazilian Laws
and the National Institutes of Health guide
for experimental animal care (9) were strictly
followed.
